Day 47 July 3 Jeffrey City to Lander, WY

We decided for an early start to beat any potential rain and wind. Before I get into that I did want to revisit the lodging for the evening. As Leisa mentioned, we lodged in a community church which has been completely converted into a cyclist hostel. It was clean and comfortable and completely met our meager needs for evening shelter, showers and kitchen facilities. I also want to touch upon the cyclist graffiti covering the walls. It was so fun to read the wall art and it was so inspiring to realize how many people actually participate in the journey of bicycle touring. Angie took the lead and created a piece for the Spokane-4 to sign.

The community church/bike hostel as seen during our morning departure

Some of the fun graffiti on the wall in the kitchen area.

Our proud entry!!

Back to the day’s ride…as I had mentioned, we got an early start to beat any drastic weather changes. The early start treated us with some spectacular rainbows and generally favorable winds.

Eric, Leisa, Angie, me and Jaz (our dear friend from Birmingham, UK) took a quick breakfast break along the highway and proceeded to Lander, WY.

We finally made it to Lander, WY where our lodging was camping in the City Park. We had heard of a 4th of July Rodeo in town so we definitely planned to attend. Prior to that I had a special treat of a quick visit from my grand and great-grand nieces from Worland, WY. Isabella Kunz (grand niece) and her lovely daughter Daisy joined us in the park for some fun, followed by dinner and the Rodeo. It was just beautiful to spend time with this part of my family which I don’t see nearly often enough.

Leisa writes:

In Lander the park was full of rodeo campers and also an Adventure Cycling tour group that was on the same route as us.  We went with Jaz to his first ever Rodeo. England does not apparently have them.  It was a true rodeo.  We saw Relay Horse Racing for the first time.  It is crazy and dangerous as riders run and jump onto horses; race around the stadium then tag another rider to do the same thing. Jaz was in awe and stayed late to see all the bull riding.
